Characterization of Iron-Matrix Composites Reinforced by In Situ TiC and Ex Situ WC Fabricated by Casting

In this study, the effect of microstructural characteristics on mechanical properties high-chromium white cast iron-matrix composites reinforced by in situ TiC and ex WC was investigated. To end, two different powder mixtures (Ti + Al graphite Fe) were compressed to produce green compacts that inserted into mold, before casting. The microstructure resulting base metal characterized using optical microscopy (OM) scanning electron with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM/EDS). analysis revealed a sound bonding between composite zone metal. reinforcement particles showed homogeneous distribution carbide particles, unlike particles. reinforcements evaluated hardness ball-cratering micro-abrasion tests. results both increase wear performance material, which best achieved
